I moved to Tenerife in 1999 and planned to stay a year while learning Spanish then move on to "real" Spain. I had been here on holiday and knew that with German and French (and English) I would find work.
Worked at the airport for 6 months putting Germans on the right buses! Found a Spanish boyfriend. Then moved on to secretary in an Estate Agents in Cabo Blanco and worked part time doing accounts and other computer stuff for an air-con company (in my long lunch hour!). Bought a duplex apartment in Costa del Silencio and a car in 2000.
Gave up job in estate agents to have Xoaquin in 2002 (son with afore-mentioned Spanish boyfriend who is now hubby, Marcos!).
Moved to Galicia (northern Spain) for 1 year but wages are worse than in Tenerife and there is not much work around, plus the fact that we missed the warm weather so we came back "home"!
Started working again part-time for Rob and Andy at Sun4free.com when Xoaquin started school in 2005. He goes to Luis Alvarez Cruz school in Las Galletas.
Currently looking for a larger home with garden.
I am very happy and have made some really good friends here in Tenerife.
